Challenge
Choosing a private eye surgeon is a decision most people make once, with no way to judge the outcome in advance. A new practice starts with none of the things that make it easier — no site, no search presence, no way to picture what better vision would actually look like. Miss Menassa had the credentials and the operating lists. What she did not have was a way to be found.

Project Overview

Menassa Vision is the private practice of Miss Nardine Menassa, a consultant ophthalmic surgeon with dual sub-specialty expertise in cornea and cataract surgery, working across Liverpool, Southport and the wider North West. Aethus built the practice’s entire online presence from nothing: brand, website, an interactive lens simulator, online booking with card payment, and the local search footprint that brings patients to it.

The Challenge

Choosing a private eye surgeon is a decision most people make once, with no way to judge the outcome in advance. A new practice starts with none of the things that make it easier — no site, no search presence, no way to picture what better vision would actually look like. Miss Menassa had the credentials and the operating lists. What she did not have was a way to be found.

Our Solution

A consultant-led site built around the patient’s decision rather than the practice’s org chart. Patients compare lens outcomes in an interactive simulator, check their suitability in a two-minute quiz, read the fee for every procedure before they call, and book and pay for a consultation without speaking to anyone. Aethus delivered all of it: brand, design, build, content architecture and local SEO across the North West.

The brief

Miss Nardine Menassa is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at St Paul’s Eye Unit in Liverpool, an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and a surgeon who sub-specialises in both cornea and cataract — an unusual combination, and the reason her outcomes hold up. Inside the NHS, a reputation like that travels by referral. In private practice, it has to travel online.

She came to Aethus to start Menassa Vision from nothing — no brand, no site, no search presence, no way for a patient to reach her. The brief was never a brochure. It was everything a patient needs in order to find her, understand what she does, and book.

Turning a consultation into a decision

Private eye surgery is bought, not prescribed. Someone weighing £2,750 against £3,200 an eye is really weighing two versions of the next twenty years, and almost nobody can picture either one. Most consultant websites answer that with clinical prose and a phone number.

We built this one around the decision instead. Every condition explains itself in plain language and hands off to the treatment that resolves it. Every treatment carries its price. And the choice patients find hardest — which lens — gets a tool of its own.

Letting patients see the choice

A monofocal lens, an extended-depth lens and a multifocal lens are three different lives, described in words that mean nothing until you have lived them. Sharp distance but glasses for the dashboard. Extended range but some glare. Independence from glasses, with halos around headlights.

The Lens Vision Simulator renders the difference instead of describing it. Pick a condition, pick a lens, and drag the slider to compare the vision you have now with the vision each implant would give you — in daylight and at night, twelve combinations, no appointment required.

Each lens states its own compromise — “glasses for dashboard and near”, “some glare and halos”, “visible halos”. Nothing is oversold.

Answering the question before the phone rings

Most first contact with a private practice is not an enquiry. It is someone checking whether they are the sort of patient who should be calling at all — and a receptionist’s voicemail is a poor place to find that out.

So the site answers first. A short suitability quiz narrows the field. An AI assistant takes the questions people are too self-conscious to ask a human. Every fee is published. Forty patient articles cover recovery, cost, and what surgery is actually like. By the time someone books, they have already decided.

Findable where patients actually search

Nobody searches for “consultant ophthalmologist”. They search for cataract surgery in Southport, or a corneal transplant near Chester, or what Fuchs’ dystrophy is, at two in the morning, having just been told they have it.

The site was built to meet all three: eleven conditions, fifteen treatments, nine towns and forty articles — each one a real answer rather than a keyword page, and every one of them routing to the same booking form.

A patient should be able to understand the operation, see the outcome and know the price before anyone asks them for a phone number.

Where the practice is now

Menassa Vision launched as a whole practice rather than a placeholder: ninety-one pages, three bookable clinic locations across Liverpool, Southport and the Wirral, an interactive lens simulator, and a booking flow that takes payment without a phone call.

The work is ongoing. New treatments, conditions and articles go up as the practice grows, and nothing is assumed — every enquiry, quiz completion and booking step is measured, so the next change is made on evidence rather than instinct.
