AETHUS

Ophthalmology Website Cost in the UK

A bespoke, custom-coded website for a private ophthalmology practice costs from £8,000 + VAT at Aethus, quoted as a fixed price in writing before any work starts. Hosting is a separate £40 + VAT a month, and the final figure moves with the number of procedure pages, booking integration, calculators and self-assessment tools, photography and any migration from an old site.

Ophthalmology practices & eye clinics

Trusted by clinics and practices

  • K Vision Centre
  • Menassa Vision
  • Panthagani

The £8,000 starting figure covers a custom-coded site designed and written for your practice, with copywriting included. It is what we quote for a new bespoke site or for replacing an existing practice site. Rebuilds usually land between £8,000 and £12,000, and a clinic platform for several surgeons starts from £15,000.

We ask whether you are launching a new practice, replacing an existing site or building for several surgeons before giving any number, because a single figure without that context would mislead you.

What moves the price of an ophthalmology website

The same five things decide where a quote lands within the range. We list them in the quote so you can see what each one adds.

Number of procedure pages

A site that covers cataract surgery, lens replacement, laser vision correction and several eye conditions in depth is more writing, more design and more review time than a site covering one procedure. Each treatment page is written for patients and checked by you before it goes live.

Booking integration

A contact form is the simplest option. Online booking, card payment, or a link into your practice-management system adds build and testing time.

Calculators and self-assessment tools

Suitability quizzes, lens simulators and cost calculators are built into the site rather than bought as plug-ins. They take longer than ordinary pages and are often the part patients use most. Our cataract surgeon website checklist gives examples.

Photography

Real photography of you, your team and your clinics builds trust. Supplying your own is cheaper; arranging a shoot adds to the project.

Migration from an existing site

If you already have a site with pages ranking in Google, we map every old address to its new one so you keep that visibility. A large existing site takes longer to migrate than a small one.

What the fixed price includes, and what it does not

The build price covers design, copywriting, custom code, a mobile-first layout, forms that handle patient data under UK GDPR, and accessibility built to WCAG 2.2 AA. You review and approve every clinical claim before launch.

Hosting is separate and mandatory: £40 + VAT a month. It covers managed UK hosting with a 99.9% uptime guarantee, SSL, daily backups and security updates, and nothing else. Domain registration and any booking or CRM subscriptions are billed to you directly by the provider. Ongoing SEO is a separate service and is not part of the build price.

Template, freelancer, general agency or specialist: how the options compare

We have not quoted other suppliers' prices because we cannot verify them, so this comparison is about what you get rather than what it costs. Ask every supplier for a fixed written quote so you are comparing like with like.

A template or WordPress theme set up by a freelancer

Usually the lowest upfront cost and the quickest to launch. The trade-offs are generic structure, plug-in maintenance, and content that you often have to write yourself. Check who owns the code, who updates it and whether patient forms are handled securely.

A general web agency

Good design and process, but a team that has not built for a surgeon before will learn your regulatory context on your time. Ask to see live eye-care sites they have built.

A healthcare specialist such as Aethus

Typically the higher upfront figure, with procedure content, advertising-rule awareness and patient-journey design included. Our three live eye-care sites are Mr Jesse Panthagani, K Vision Centre and Menassa Vision. If you are comparing suppliers, our guide to choosing an ophthalmology website designer lists what to ask.

Typical timelines

Launching a new private practice usually takes four to six weeks. Rebuilding an existing practice site usually takes six to ten weeks, depending on the number of procedures written up and whether booking or practice-management integration is involved. A multi-surgeon clinic platform takes longer and is planned individually.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private ophthalmology website cost in the UK?

At Aethus a bespoke private ophthalmology website starts from £8,000 + VAT, quoted as a fixed price in writing. A rebuild typically falls between £8,000 and £12,000, and a multi-surgeon clinic platform starts from £15,000.

Is VAT included in the price?

No. Every figure on this page excludes VAT, which is added to the invoice.

Does the price include the writing?

Yes. Copywriting is included in every build, including a page for each procedure. You review and approve every clinical claim before the site goes live.

What does hosting cost?

Hosting is £40 + VAT a month and is mandatory with every site we build. It covers managed UK hosting with a 99.9% uptime guarantee, SSL, daily backups and security updates.

Why is the price fixed?

A fixed price agreed in writing before work starts means no surprise invoices. If you add scope later, such as extra procedures or a calculator, we quote that separately.

How long does it take to build an ophthalmology website?

Four to six weeks to launch a new private practice, and six to ten weeks to rebuild an existing practice site. Booking or practice-management integration and the number of procedures written up affect the timing.

Why not use a cheaper template or WordPress theme?

You can, and it is often the cheapest way to start. The trade-offs are generic structure, plug-in upkeep and writing the clinical content yourself. Our builds are custom-coded with the content written for you, which is what the higher starting figure pays for.

Does the price include SEO?

No. The build price covers the website, which is built to be search-friendly. Ongoing SEO is a separate service, covered on our ophthalmology SEO page.
