A chambers profile shows a solicitor you exist. It rarely does justice to your own practice, your reported cases, your publications, or the specific way you want to be found online. Many barristers — particularly those who take public access instructions — need a personal site that works alongside their chambers page, not instead of it.

The public access (direct access) scheme lets members of the public and some organisations instruct a barrister directly, without going through a solicitor first — but it comes with real eligibility limits and disclosure obligations, and getting the explanation wrong on your website risks misleading the client you are trying to reach.

Not always — a chambers profile may be enough on its own. A personal website earns its cost when you take public access instructions, want SEO built around a specific specialism, or want more space than a shared chambers page allows.
It must explain that clients can instruct you directly without a solicitor and which practice areas you accept public access work in, and publish indicative fees for specified services, on top of the pricing, VAT, complaints and regulation information the BSB requires of every barrister.
